We saw what an Interactive Transcript was and how that can make your media accessible. In this video I’m going to quickly show you how to use the Hyperaudio WordPress Plugin there it is there to create your own Interactive Transcript. So if we go to posts we add a new post. I’m just going to call this. What you do is you add a short code. It’s called hyperaudio and you add a source attribute and I have one here ready. You can put a youtube embed or Soundcloud embed in there if you like. I’m just gonna use a straight MP4 and then you have to kind of close. Now in between this. the filling of the sandwich is going to be the transcript itself. I have the data ready. In a future video.
I’ll show you how to generate this data. I’ll just paste that in for now. You can see this is actually in a format called HTML, which is kind of the language of the web, or at least for creating web page content and structure. So it’s fully customizable. and you can see that we have data inside representing each word. We have the start time and we have a duration and you can put things in paragraphs and yeah, stuff like that and headings. So let’s preview that. So there it goes, I’m just gonna press play.
We have two selves in the world at any given time now. We have the physical self, our flesh and blood, our voice. I think unfortunately the minute we make people aware of their personal data. So yeah you can click on the words to go to them the usual functionality that we have.
Internet is man made. Even click on headings. It’s quite nice. I’ll show you how to do that in another video. And yeah, you can also define in the short code the height and width of the video, the height of the transcript. And you know we want those accurate times and so we can share so I can just highlight a bit that is interesting to me and I want to share on social media click that and it will prepare a tweet for you, with the text and the link straight back to that specific bit. Kind of scroll into view. You can also have multiple players and the sharing copes with that so it knows which transcript to display or to scroll to. And yeah yeah that’s about it really. In the next video I’ll show you how to create that transcript code so that you can put the meat of your own sandwich in there. Thanks
